Mars: occurrence of liquid water.
In the absence of juvenile liquid water, condensation of water vapor to ice and subsequent melting of ice are the only means of producing liquid water on the martian surface. However, the evaporation rate is so high that the available heat sources cannot melt pure ice. Liquid water is therefore limited to concentrated solutions of strongly deliquescent salts.
متن کاملLow Temperature Aqueous Perchlorate Solutions on the Surface of Mars
Introduction: Although there has been no direct evidence for liquid water on the surface of Mars, indirect evidence comes from recent gully formation, which suggests the presence of liquid water processes near the surface [1, 2]. However, pure water is unstable in its liquid form due to the low pressures and temperatures associated with the Martian surface, so water is likely to be kept frozen ...
متن کاملThickness of Martian Ground Ice: Implication from Multi-water-reservoir Model
Introduction: Martian surface ice is currently observed only as polar layered deposits (PLDs), whereas Mars Odyssey Gamma Ray Spectrometer [1,2] and Mars Express’s radar sounder observations [3] propose the presence of much larger amount of ground ice in the midto high-latidutes. Such a ground-ice region is expected to spread over a few tenths of percent of the total Martian surface, yet the th...
متن کاملEffect of tree roots on water infiltration rate into the soil
ABSTRACT- To study the effect of tree roots on increasing water infiltration in soil and also to determine and assess the coefficients of different infiltration models, some infiltration tests were performed in three tree plantation areas in Badjgah, Fars province with different soil textures (clay loam for pear plantation, sandy loam for grape plantation, loamy sand for pine trees). In each pl...
متن کاملIntegrated Effect of Nitrogen Fertilizer and Vermicompost on Quantitative and Qualitative Traits of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) Under Water Stress Situation
BACKGROUND: Management of water deficit is a great factor to sustainable crop production, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. Vermicompost is an organic compound that is microbial active and rich in nutrients that results from the interaction of earthworms and microorganisms with organic matter decomposition. OBJECTIVES: This research was carried out to ...
